Strange Mirror Margins

I have MS Word 2010 and was sent a document created using 2007.
usually use mirror margins, with settings top: 2, Bottom: 2, Inside: 3
Outside: 2 (the picture on the right)

For some reason, however, when I select Mirror Margins, it displays
Outside: 2, Inside: 3, Left: 2, Right: 2 (picture on the left) whic
makes the bottom margin 3 cm (never the top).

My document is Portrait, and in fact when I switch to landscape, i
changes the mirror margins back to saying "top: 2, Bottom: 2, Inside: 3
Outside: 2"

I have tried pasting into a new document but obviously the settings ar
embedded in the document somehow.

I have also tried putting a gutter in but even though it says "Gutte
position: left" it actually puts the gutter on the bottom of the page.

Please help, this is driving me nut

Actually, pasting a link to an example document in Word format would be
more helpful than screen shots of your Page Setup dialog box.

If you suspect that the document is damaged, you can try the following:
Delete any section breaks in the document. Then copy the entire content,
minus the final paragraph mark (¶), into a new blank document.

And to show/hide paragraph marks, as well as other nonprinting marks,
click the ¶ button on the Home tab.
