Strange problem with update patches

Hello,

I took a call this morning from our IT Dept who said that they had applied a
ps1002.exe patch to Project Server 2002. My understanding is that this is
designed only for Project 2002 running under Windows 2003 Server. We are
running Windows 2000 Server !

There was no message at the time to say it couldn't be installed, and a
message at the end of the routine stated that the update had been installed
successfully. However our Project Web Access Views now show information that
is "frozen" in time as at the date of the update. Although we can open and
publish project plans from Project Server, the updated information is not
appearing in any project web access views.

So, how do we reverse the effect of this patch ? or is there another
workaround we can use.

Thanks

Jeff

Actually it turns out that the patch we installed was a valid patch after
all - it was ps1001.exe not ps1002.exe. Apparently it simply isn't
possible to install the Windows 2003 Server patch on a Windows 2000 Server
system !

Nevertheless we are exeperiencing the same problems having installed the
ps1001.exe patch. We spoke to someone at Microsoft who wasn't that helpful.

Before we trash everything and start again does anyone have any suggestions
on what we can do here ?

Thanks

Jeff

As an update, we no longer believe this issue is related to the patch in any
way - just coincidental. Apparently there may be an issue with a corrupt
XML file clogging the View drop folder and then the transaction log
exceeding quota. Apparently at this point Project Server does some weird
things.

Thing is we don't know exactly whats happening now. We have lots of XML
requests that are not being processed, which explains why we are not getting
the updates through to PWA views.

Can anyone advise further - or point us in the right direction at least ?

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff:

What errors are you seeing in the application log?

Jeff:

One strategy is to move all the xml packages to a temporary directory. The
problem one is likely the oldest. You can drop them back into the ViewDrop
folder one-by-one to see if they process. The next step would be to analyze
the ones that don't and see if that leads you anywhere.
