Struggling to get the report I need FOR MTG TOMORROW

I'm a new user and am lost when it comes to reports. And books/tutorials
aren't helping. Here's what I want to produce on a report:

All the tasks (in a one- or two-month period) for a particular resource in a
calendar format. I need the tasks to list not only their start date, but the
summary task they reference as well... Is that possible?

1) Make a copy of the Calendar View. (Views > More Views, Copy the Calendar
View, and rename it). Apply the view.
2) Create a filter. (Project > Filtered For > More Filter).

The syntax should look something like this:

Resource Names contain "Resource Name:"?
And Start is greater than "Tasks starting after:"?
And Finish is less than "...and finishing before:"?

3) Set the filter for each resource and print. (Note that this process could
be automated using a macro)
4) As for the summary task, right click on the calendar, and choose Bar Styles.
Select Summary Bar on the left, and pick a format on the right. That should
then display the Summary Bar which is turned off by default.

This sounds perfect. Except that I don't understand how to plug the syntax
info you gave me into the box that pops up.

When I get to the "more filters" box, I assume I click "new". That takes
me to a box that asks you to name the filter. It has buttons called "Cut
Row", "Copy Row", etc. Then it has 4 columns: "And/or", "Field Name",
"Test", "Value(s)". I don't know how to follow the rest of your directions,
based on this box...

I'm sorry to be so stupid. I'm a new user, who didn't get to take a class,
but was thrown into figuring it out. It is not an intuitive package. And I'm
not a programmer, so syntax is not my forte - not even close.

Thanks SO much for your help!

You're not stupid. You just don't know how to use the tool. That's a huge
difference.

You just need to chop that syntax into fields, and you're good. In the filter
dialog box:

Field: Resource Name
Test: Contains
Values: "Resource Name:"?

Next line:

And/Or: And
Field: Start
Test: Is Greater Than
Values: "Tasks starting after:"?

....and so on and so forth.

Ok... I scopied and made a new calendar (which showed all the tasks.) I made
a new task filter, plugging in the syntax you gave me (which it took and
seemed to save fine. However, when I applied it, gave it one of the resource
names and then dates, the calendar shows completely blank.

What am I doing wrong?
