Stuck, hidden, outbound email

My boss is complaining about the following error:

'{server} - Sending reported error - the connection to the server was
interrupted. Server responded: 550 Unrouteable address'

On the server he's sending an email to a mail domain that doesn't have an MX.

Checked his outbox, nothing in it. Went through the read-receipt procedure
described on outlook-tips.com with Outlook Spy and came up blank again. I
also ran the Inbox Repair tool which, while it found and fixed problems,
didn't fix this specific issue.

Suggestions? This is now into it's second week of causing a problem.

Many thanks,

James

Thanks for the tip, but no luck so far.

I changed to using a new PST file, restarted outlook, and it was STILL
trying to send an email. This together with the fact that the outbox says it
is 0KB in size perhaps indicates the stuck mail is no longer in the outbox
but further down the chain somehow?

I'm no expert in these matters I'm afraid. But this one is seriously bugging
us.

Anything further would be appreciated.

Hmmm, as far as I know there isn't anything much downstream from the Outbox.
After you switched PSTs did you restart the machine to ensure that the MAPI
subsystem was using the new PST exclusively?
