Stuck in Outbox

Hi - I set up a new install on a XP Home machine - Office
2000 SR1 - I copied the pst file from the old machine,
installation good and seemed good on taking the copied pst
file, but here is what is happening: some outgoing emails
are getting stuck in the outbox (not all, just some),
particularly when I hit "Reply." I checked online for this
and noticed that when I go into the Contacts folder
properties/address book, the checkbox that says "Show this
folder as an email address book." is grayed out, but it is
checked and has Contacts in the name (again, this is
grayed out) - because I wanted to remove and reinstall
this. I read where I should go to Tools/Email
Accounts/View or Change Existing Directories --- BUT I do
not have an "Email Accounts" in my tools menu!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What _do_ you have in your Tools menu?

Hi - here is my Tools menu:

Well, you have "Accounts", which is what OL 2000 in Internet Mode Only will
display. Other versions (2002/2003) of Outlook say "E-mail Accounts". I
don't have OL 2000 IMO available to look, but somehow you have to find the
services you have and include the "Outlook Address Book" service. I don't
know enough about OL 2000 to tell you how, though. Sorry.

Hi Brian,

Well, from the Address Book, I can go into Tools/Accounts -
this gives me the Internet Accounts window with one tab
that says "Directory Service" - this allows me to add
another LDAP service, whatever that is, but I don't see
how it connects to the issue I am looking at... but thanks
anyway for looking.

IMO had no such service because it could not support it. The "Outlook"
Address Book was actually the Windows Address Book engine used to display
the Contacts Folder. It was installed and enabled by default and could not
be disabled. There is never any need or benefit to "reinstall" it.

Thank you, Russ - any idea why these messages keep getting
stuck in the outbox? I ran the file check utility and had
minor errors that were repaired - next I guess I will
create a new pst file, copy everthing over there except
the outbox, then close Outlook and rename the new one to
the old name, delete the old and see what happens.

Any suggestions greatly apreciated!

How did you "copy over" this PST file to the new installation? Have you
examined closely the email address in the Contact Record of a recipient that
failed to see if it is valid and resolved?

yes, the email addresses are ok - actually, I haven't done
it yet, but here is my plan: create another pst file in
outlook (another personal folder - enable mail deliver to
this) then copy all the contacts from the old to the new
(highlight, ctrl + drag to the new); same for inbox and
sent boxes (don't use the calendar or anything else);
close outlook, then delete the old (first will copy to
another directory just in case!) and rename the new as
outlook.pst; open outlook and hope for the best!

Thanks!

Assuming you've already exhausted the repair options for your current PST,
that's a good plan. Just make sure you copy the information directly from
the old PST to the new (i.e., don't import it) and there is no need to
delete the old PST, just close it.
