Student 2003 to Professional 2007?

I have the Student 2003 and would like to upgrade to the Professional 2007.
Do I need to purchase the Full version or can I just do an upgrade. I know
this may be a stupid question so please don't laugh.

Hi Mom,

Not a dumb question at all, especially since MS provided differing answers to that specific scenario at different points in time :)

Unfortunately, the Office 2003 Student & Teacher Edition isn't accepted as upgrade qualifier for Office 2007. MS Works, if you
happen to have that as well, is a qualifier for a 2007 upgrade package. http://office.microsoft.com/suites

It's not exactly easy to parse their language of what qualifies. But, as I
read it Student & Teach 2003 *does* qualify, while Student & Teacher XP does
not. From http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suites/FX101754511033.aspx:

Microsoft Office Professional 2007- Qualifying Products for Upgrade:

Microsoft Works 6.0–10; Microsoft Works suite 2000–2006 or later; any
2000-2007 Microsoft Office program or suite; any Microsoft Office XP suite
except Office XP Student and Teacher.

So, Student & Teacher 2003 does qualify, while Student and Teacher XP does
not.

Hi Herb,

Yes, the website, which original said 'any' Office 2000 or newer version, while the packaging of the Office 2007 updates excluded
the Office XP & 2003 Student & Teacher's editions, has been corrected to match what apparently has been found to work by customers
reporting back in the newsgroups. Interesting.
