Student Teacher 2008 Cannot open files

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I am using the Student teacher edition 2008. I cannot open some files that are email to me. It is not specific with word, excel, or power point. It does it with all of them. But if I go to a windows computer and try to open the exact same file it works fine.

I have tried saving it to my desktop, documents, downloads, etc. Tried renaming the files. I have reinstalled office, ran all the latest updates, etc.

I have tried opening these from entourage, or a webmail. Yahoo, and Gmail.

The error that I get says: the file cannot be accessed. The file may be read only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location, Or, the server the document is stored on is not responding.

If anyone can shed some light on this issue it would be appreciated.

Sounds like you might have set the preference to "Partially download
messages over 20 kb".

In which case, you have not yet downloaded the whole file.

How are you trying to open the file? Try using File>Open from within the
application you want to see the file in. Your computer may not have
registered the Windows file-extensions correctly. If File>Open works,
select each kind of file in Finder, and use GetInfo to change your computer
to open all files with this extension in the correct program.

The other thing that could do this is if a specific file type is being
blocked by the malware protection on your computer. What antivirus are you
running?

Hope this helps
