Students and teachers trial version

How do I use documents created during the trial period if I don't want to pay
$149 for the upgrade? Are those docs just lost to me ( other than viewing)
until I pay the ransom?

Microsoft's Wordpad (it's in the "Accessories" folder under
"Programs" will allow you to open and edit documents created
by Word. It has only very limited features of course but in
fact it's enough for many people's needs.

I assume you work for a living and expect to get paid for what you do.
So do the people at Microsoft.
You are under no obligation to use the product and there are free programs
out there that work.

$149.00 is a very good price. So is the price that non teachers and non
students use (You do legally qualify don't you?)

Go find a copy of say dBase II from 1978 and compare it with Access 2003.
dBase cost about $500.00 then and Access costs about $200.00 now.
