STUPID NAVIGATION BAR!

T

Tracey

Hi there, thanks for the reply. Last Sunday I updated
the site in FP by copying and pasting July 2003 page into
June 2003 and then re-naming the old July page to 280204
and then pasting new images, typing in the information
and then renaming the page in both nav view & folder
list. I have been doing this for a year now, the same
thing every month - some months I have to create new
pages and others like this one I combine 2 pages and use
the old one for the new month. ISP have finally managed
to clear the tech faults with the ftp not giving me
access, so I have loaded the site tonight (by opening the
folder on the hard drive, edit, select all, right mouse
click and drag onto the task bar and into the folder on
the ftp) and once again - no nav bar/menu (buttons) down
the left side. I also have MS FP Server Extensions 2002
loaded on my hard drive - downloaded from MS site. I am
now totally clueless. The site address is
http://myweb.absamail.co.za/chananie/index.htm and if you
go to the bottom of the home page you will see all the
pages whose buttons are missing. The ftp is
ftp://ftp.absamail.co.za.

start by using FP's Publish and not FTP.

Tracey,

Does the remote server have the FP extensions?

If yes, then you need to publish the site via FP's http mode so that all
changes are updates, then includes hidden files as well and the navigation
structure.

If no, then you need to either publish the site via FP's FTP mode so that
all changes are updates or you need to publish the web to another folder on
your HD, then remove all _vti folders from the web, then use a 3rd Party FTP
application to upload the remaining content.

Whenever you change the shared borders, Include pages, navigation structure,
all pages using these components must be published, not just the page you
have actually made changes to.

See my reply to your other thread. The buttons are displaying, but have
height and width attributes set to zero - so they are effectively invisible.

On the local site try a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks and then File Preview in Browser to see if they reappear
If not, try changing anything in View Navigation and then the above again
If they are visible in File Preview in Browser re-publish your site

The bravenet exe is my visitor counter and that is about
11 months old, almost as old as my site.
