stupid question

i know this is going to sound like a stupid question but when trial runs out
when it actually runs out and i reinstall a previous version of office can u
still amend/change documents saved in the new version of office?

Depends on what "new version" and "previous version" you're
talking about.

Bill

I would not recommend you save any important documents in the beta format.
you run the risk of them not opening in a previous office version. I already
tested one access file and it was a no go going backwards. And to MS credit
when I opened the file there was ample warning to that effect.

If I recall correctly....

If you have a .docx file, rename it with a .zip extension. You can then
extract the files and your .doc file will be in there. PLEASE NOTE: I
haven't done this so I could be terribly wrong. It would be nice if someone
out there who is running the beta would try this and see if my info is
correct. (I have opted not to download the beta on my computer because I
cannot risk having the beta booger anything up.)

Hi JoAnn,

You wouldn't be 'terribly' wrong :), just somewhat inaccurate.
While it is true that the new Office 2007 file formats such as
.docx, .docm
.xlsx, .xlsm
.pptx, .pptm
are zipped files, they hold XML content in sections. They do not hide a Word 97-2003 document file (for example .doc) file that can
be relied on to use as is. The MS Office 2007 team blog for information on the 2007 file formats is at
http://blogs.msdn.com/brian_jones
in addition to the information on http://microsoft.com/office/preview

While Microsoft will provide converters to open 2007 documents in Office XP/2002 and 2003, it's possible that the file format in the
final product may differ from that of Beta 2 in some aspects, so it's a good idea to keep 'valuable' files (i.e. ones for something
other than in text) in the 97-2003 formats as a safety backup.

I suspected my memory wasn't 100% accurate. I heard it last September and
then only a mention. I had an awful lot of other things going on that week
so the fact that I remembered *that* surprises me.
