Style Hot Keys are not saved to RTF documents in Word 2003

Greetings--
I have been trying to save hot keys for styles to RTF files in Word
2003 to no avail. The recorded hot keys are seemingly saved and are
operative for as long as the document remains open. But they are
actually kept for only as long as the document remains open. When the
document is closed then reopened, the style hot keys have all vanished.
This is systematic. Does anyone know of a workaround or is this a known
bug in Word (2003)?

I don't believe you can save macros, shortcut keys, etc., in RTF format.

This might be so but "shortcut key codes for styles" ("{\*\keycode
<keys>}") are part of the official MS RTF Specifications!

I'll defer to your superior knowledge. I'm constantly surprised by how much
can be saved in RTF.
