Style not cascading properly

I’m using cascading heading styles in Word 7. Heading 1 is based on “no style”; heading 2 is based on heading 1; heading 3 is based on heading 2; and heading 4 is based on heading 3. When I change the font to heading 1, headings 2 and 3 assume the new font, but the change does not flow down to heading 4: it remains unchanged.
