stylename CHAR CHAR CHAR CHAR

I have several documents with unwanted styles apparantly created by Word.
These all have the original style name with the word "CHAR" appended a
varying number of times. Can someone tell me how to use VBA to detect the
application of these unwanted styles, re-assign the correct style name to
the paragraph and then delete the unwanted style? I want to ]do this each
time a document is opened.
