STYLEREF code doesn't work

Hi

I have tried to do a dictionary style header in Word and it just doesn't work. I inserted the following in the header
{STYLEREF <company>} {STYLEREF < company> \l

that same thing prints - not the actual company names

I did a mailmerge for a directory of companies. I attempted to do the STYLEREF code with a 'style' in parentesis
