Styles/Formatting in Word 2003

N

Nicole

We have inserted a page break (Ctrl. + Enter) in a document and formatted the
first line on the second page with a grey shadow etc. Unfortunately, Word
also formats the page break line on the first page, which wouldn't be a
problem but Word wants to print the grey shadow (line) on the first page as
well which we don't want it to.
We can solve that problem by inserting a section break but that would mean
we have to change the header and footer in every section every time we make a
change so we don't want to do that. It can also be fixed by inserting a
paragrah on the second page but again that is not the aim. The text needs to
start in the first line but without the format/style to reflect on the first
page.
So temporarily we have fixed it by putting a table around the text but
surely there must be a simple way how to avoid that the previous line on the
first page is automatically marked with the same style as on the next page.

Is there anything else we have overlooked?!

Hi Nicole

Don't use a manual page break (ctrl-Enter). Instead, format the paragraph
(Format > Paragraph) to have a Page Break Before.

If you are using the same style for the first paragraph on each page, then
you can modify the style itself to have a page break before.

Hope this helps.
