Styles pane will not open in W2007

My coworker cannot open the styles pane in W2007. It makes no difference the
document or paragraph she’s in; the styles pane will not open. It gives her
no error message either.

She can get to the styles by using the reveal Formatting pane. This is
cumbersome since there are a lot more steps to go through to choose a
different style.

When she chose to restart her PC hoping for a cure, she did get prompted
about saving changes yes/no to the Normal.dotm. She chose no. (She’s a very
fast typist and wonders if she unwittingly typed a weird key combination.)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Just to be sure... she's clicking the launcher at the right end of the
Styles group in the Home tab... is that correct? The Styles pane (when it's
working) can also be toggled by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S. Does that
combination do anything?

If not, an interface failure usually is the result of one of three problems:

1. Corrupted Normal.dotm. (solution: rename or delete normal.dotm; then
start Word and see if the problem is fixed)

2. Corrupted registry entry; usually the Data key, which is located here in
the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word

Solution: delete or rename the Data key; then start Word and see if the
problem is fixed

3. Misbehaving add-in. (solution: disable add-ins one at a time to see if
problem goes away)

Herb..she is using the launcher properly, not the shortcut.

I'll pass on your list. Thanks so much for the help.
