Sub-domains

Can anyone tell me how I should save the name (FP2002) when I want to add a
sub-domain name. My host offers this service and I currently save
"Hotels_Spain" which when published & viewed gives an addy of
http://www.mysite.com/hotels_spain.htm I need to produce
http://www.hotels-spain.mysite.com

Any help would be most welcome. Fred

A common method is to create a subweb and place the subdomain's content
into it, then change DNS (add subdomain) to point to the subweb.
For example: http://www.example.com/subweb/index.htm
could also be reached as http://subdomain.example.com/index.htm

Hi Ron,

Could you build on your kind answer and come up with an idiot's guide or
step by step guide as apart from knowing that DNS means Domain Name System
the rest is beyond me. I've checked on the help menu but the diagram it
gives looks like an FTP chart which I no longer use. I can create a new
folder but can't see anything to do with subwebs. Sorry for being so thick.

After you have create the folder in your live site, right click and select convert to web / site,
then you have to contact your host to point the subdomain to the sub web / site you just created.

To publish content to this subdomain, you would always publish as:
http://www.yourmaindomain.com/subwebname
not
http://subdomain.yourmaindomain.com

Hi Thomas,

I've created the folder but when I right click I can find nothing like
"convert to web" just the usual list starting with Select, Explore, etc.
I produced quite a few pages some time ago and placed them within a folder
as web pages within but they don't seem to get published. As an example, the
folder is called Florida and within the folder there are pages for Orange
County, Kissimmee, etc. Sorry to labor on this but I'm obviously missing
something. Fred

You must create the folder within a current open FP web with FP, not Windows Explorer, etc.

This process must also be done in your Live site - the one on the server
you publish to.
If your host provides a Control Panel, you might be able to use that to
create and point your subdomain, otherwise, as Thomas said, ask your host.
