Is there anyway to tell FrontPage not to create those subdirectories like
_vti_cnf?

No, as those folders contain the information that FP needs and uses to manage your web site. They
are never publish between locations, they are created as needed by FP.

Thank you for your quick response, Thomas. I just noticed that when you
delete the folders, FrontPage no longer recognizes the directory as a Web,
but I assume that links will no longer automatically update if this
functionality is removed? In other words, I can get FrontPage to leave my
directories alone, but then I lose some of the functionality of the
software. Am I correct in assuming this?

You loose all functionality of FP to manage any aspect of your web, images will end up with links
pointing back to your HD, etc. You can see this by just using File Menu | Open File to open any htm
file on your HD, not recommended.

YUCK! Well I'll quit being so picky then and just deal with the additional
directories! Thank you once again, Thomas.

These extra directories annoyed me also, because my online website now only
has a root directory and an images directory.

My question (to myself) was: "Why should I have all these other directories
on my local disk?" Especially when FP seems to duplicate image directories,
which are not always small

But, like you. I have thrown in the towel - if that's what FP wants, then
sobeit. Luckily, I am only using about 30% of my hard disk so I don't think
this usage will create any storage problem.

The files in the hidden _vti folder should be no more then 1KB each.

Thomas,

Yes, I checked those directories and most JPEG files are 644 bytes.
Stupidly, I just saw that the names were the same and assumed that the sizes
would be the same.

Wrong,Trevor!!
