Subreport-report hangs while trying to format subreport

In previous ACCESS versions you could have a limited number of controls in a
report footer. So we used a subreport instead as subreports could handle more
controls. Now in Access 2007 my report hangs trying format the subreport.
What is the max amount of controls on a subreport?
