Substituting Resources for selected tasks?

Dave

Hi,

My team creates projects initially with generic resources. As they project
progresses they'll want to substitute these resources with real team
members. We've worked out how to do it using Substitute resources but this
works on the entire project which is not a good thing for us. For example,
we may several deliverables assigned to an architect but we want to assign
the real architect for only one of these - the other deliverables are not
scheduled until later in the year.

How can I replace some tasks assigned to an architect to a real architect
but leave other generic architect's duties untouched?

Thanks

Dave

Dave:

Add the required team member to the team and use the Assign Resources dialog
replace function.

Thanks Gary. That's the easy answer and I'll use that to start with. Now the
hard part...

What if one of my generic resources represents a 3-person team (300%
allocation units). Since substitute resources only works across the board
does this mean my only option to substitute resources on a subset of tasks
is to do it manually using assign resources? Manually try to spread the 3
person team equally across this generic resource's taks? A less than elegant
solution you will probably agree...

Dave:

Neither facility in project does a three-for-one swap. In order for this
scenario to work, you'd have to have three generic resources with
assignments on the task.
