Subtotal Buttons Missing

On the spreadsheet I'm working on, the subtotal function
itself is working perfectly; however, I do not get the "1
2 3" buttons at the upper left as I normally do, so I
cannot collapse my data down to just the subtotals. I
have never had this happen before, and am stumped on how
to make those buttons reappear.

Is there an option somewhere that might have been turned
off? Anyone have any suggestions? I'm frustrated as I've
even re-downloaded the data I'm working with, thinking
maybe it was a fluke, but it's not.

The weird thing is that in other spreadsheets, the buttons
appear as they should when I use the subtotal function, it
is only in this particular spreadsheet when I have the
problem. Any help you anyone can give will be greatly
appreciated!

Choose Tools>Options
Select the View tab
Under Window options, add a check mark to Outline symbols
Click OK
