Success Stories

Hi,

I am looking for any success stories with Project Server to pass on to the
team. Specifically long term committments to the product and clear benefits
you have derived.

Sometimes its good to hear with such a complex and serious internal
committment such as this.

Thanks.

From my perspective there are many good reasons to implement Project
Server.

1. Increased collaboration between all levels of management having
roles on the server.
2. Increased information available to all levels. The information is
based on objective data.
3. Increased process and standards. You will most likely have to
increase your processes and standards, since Project Server is only as
good as the data in it, and with poor standards and processes, you can
load it up with bad data pretty quickly.
4. A new level of accountability at all levels, from team members on
up.
5. The ability to forecast resource needs and project costs.

All of those require a committment and all provide benefit, as long as
you have processes that keep your organization from loading a bunch of
bad data into the server. For example, if you currently have a lot of
people over allocated, and took change your practices to prevent that,
then Project Server isn't going to help much.

Project Server does a number of things well, but providing printed
reports isn't one of them, so make sure you either have your own
reporting asset you can use or that you set the correct expectations
regarding reporting.

Compared with many of the other tools available, Project Server
provides a fairly low price point for Enterprise Portfolio / Project
Management. It isn't perfect, but what tool is? I have seen other
tools, that cost a lot more, provide less functionality.
