Sudden Office 97 failure

[Charlemagne]

I am using Office 97 with Windows XP. Suddenly Word and Excel take three or
more minutes to load and then won't function. Has some new update done this
or what? I am mystified, and need quick solution.

won't function? do they give you any errors? If so, what?
