My suggestion is to skip the 'fancy stuff' and K.I.S.S...and focus on
content. Better content will separate you site from the pack more than
'fancy stuff'. Look at the Google home site...no fancy stuff there.

Perhaps ask yourself before adding any 'fancy stuff', does it make my site
more functional or easier to use; does it distract from the content; does it
make the page load slower, etc. Just because you can do something, doesn't
mean you should.

Actually I think you site is a pretty good example of what I was trying to
say. Not real fancy, loads fast, few bells and whistles...just lots of great
content that's easy to get at.

I am sure the folks that use Flash excessively, background music, scrolling
banners, mouse trails and such would disagree with me.
