Sum by Color

Someone told me that there was a formula/function that would allow you to
sum cells with a specified background and/or text color. Does anyone know
either how to do this, or where to get further information on doing it?

Andy's reply assumes one understanding of your question, however, if you are looking to change the font and background color of a cell (assuming a desired condition exists) then use Conditional Formatting. This allows you to set a specific perameter for a cell based upon a formula or value. If the formula or value is TRUE, the desired font color and backgrounds are activated. Otherwise, the default font color and background are used. Conditional Formatting can be found in the Menu bar under Format, Conditional Formatting.
