Help- in both Excel 2008 Mac and Excel 2007 Windows, whenever I try to use SUM (for example, "=SUM(E6:F6)") with two adjacent cells with numbers in them, I hit enter, but nothing happens; it just says "SUM(E6:F6). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your cell is probably formatted as text.
Format as General AND re-enter the formula.

I tried reentering the formula with everything as general but it still does not work; any further ideas would be great.

Do other formulas work OK? If not, you may have the setting for showing formulas instead of results enabled.

What does "does not work" mean? What do you mean "everything as general"?
What is the format of the cell containing the formula? What did you enter
for the formula? What was the result in the cell?
