Sum of cells if contain info

In column K, I have different information. Each cell either says "Returned"
or "Disposed."

In K35, I would like to have a total of all the cells in the column which
show "Returned" and in K36, I would like to have a total of all the cells in
the column whith show "Disposed"

One way:

K35: =COUNTIF(K1:K34,"Returned")
K36: =COUNTIF(K1:K34,"Disposed")

I tried that formula I think but had no joy! Maybe because I wrote the words
in capitals instead of lower case!
