sumif does not work with pasted values

I have a sumif function that works perfectly well when
the data is keyed into it manually but when the data is
copied and pasted in from a csv file the function returns
a value of zero. Can anyone help?

Les,

the pasted data is probably being interpreted as text
instead of numbers, see if you can change the number
of decimal places (will tell you if it's text or numbers)

Most likely it sees the values as text,
copy an empty cell somewhere, select the range,
do edit>paste special and select add
