Sumif???

I am working on a point sheet, our absenteeism system, for everyday a
emp is absent I give them a point.

I am trying to make excel calculate the year-to-date deletion date fo
the points.

How can I nest an Edate function with a Sumif???

I'm not quite sure how to word this, if you think you can help pleas
reply.

17/11/2003 Jones
01/05/2004 Smith
03/05/2004 Smith
04/05/2004 Smith
05/05/2004 Smith
06/05/2004 Jones

then
=SUMPRODUCT((B2:B16="Smith")*(A2:A16>TODAY()-365))
will sum the number of days Smith has been absent in the last 12 month
