Summarizing data from 2 diferentt reports-common fields are date &

I'm not sure if this is a subreport question, or if I'm making this harder
than it needs to be...

I have a report called "cashier" that has info on cash paid in our service
areas (i.e. total paid, date, client ID, receipt #, office code, etc...)

I have a 2nd report called "office" that also has infor on $$ paid, but has
different fields (i.e. check #, pay code, etc... in addition to total paid,
and date)

What I'm being asked is to find a total by date for both reports. For
example, if 10 cash payments were reported by "cashier" on 2/01/05, and 20
checks were received as reported by "office", how can I do a grand total?

Can it just be a query with a relationship between the date field? Again,
not sure if I'm making this too complicated...
