Summary duration calculation

I have some tasks with whole day durations and preds set fs with other tasks.
The summary duration is calculating to 65.38 days when it should be 65 days.
It has something to do with a pred realtionship as it goes away when I
remove it. I do not have any resources assigned to any tasks and all tasks
are fixed unit.

Any thoughts as to why this happening?

Are any of your durations in hours or elapsed duration? Any percentage lag
times? Zoom in on the Gantt chart to see if there's a task that's adding a
partial day.

All durations are whole days. There is a lag due to a pred but the previous
task is 5 day duration with 16 hours assigned. No resource. If I pull the
pred off the partial day goes away. How do I determine what is causing the
partial day?

Is your productive work day set in options exactly 8 hrs? If you zoom in on
the Gantt chart on that predecessor, does it end partway into a day?

It is hard to say. If I view in hours it looks like the task completes at
11am. It is a 5
day duration based task.

That looks like the problem. Now you just need to figure out why that task is
not measured in full days. What are your hours per day on the calendar
options?

The project calendar shows 8 hours a day and the offending task is a 40 hour
task, fixed units, with a 10 day duration. There is no task calendar and no
resources assigned to the task.

Not sure this posted the first time. The project calendar is 8 hours a day.
The offending task is 16 hours work with a duration of 5 days with no
resource assigned and no task level calendar.

Pardon me for bumping in. You may find it more efficient to track down
the odd start/finish times by adding time to the display of start and
finish dates. Go to Tools > Options, view tab and select a date format
which shows time.

There may be some variability between your project calendar (Tools >
Change Working Time) and the start time of a task. See FAQ #5 at:
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

You note that you have been entering work but have not been assigning
resources. Just to double check -- have you been entering dates
(start/finish) as well?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Got it!------This was caused by some tasks that were added to the schedule at
100% complete. They may or may not have had hours. Most were milestones.
Unfortunately, they showed starting at 11AM. I went through and marked them
0% and then back to 100% and the calculation took care of it.

Thanks for the help.
