Summing in summary tasks and project summary lines

Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

I want to create summaries of an inserted colum (number 1) analogous
the the summaries in the COST column, ie: sum the values in the column
for the group of subtasks in each summary task row and sum all the
values of the summary tasks in the project summary task row.

If you look on the custom field dialog box for that field, bottom half,
there is a setting for "calculation for task and group summary rows"
where you can specfy how the rollup is computed, or make your own
formula to make the summary value you are seeking.
