Sunken Text Boxes in Access 2003

When I create a sunken text box in a new database created in Access 2003 it
will not display as sunken unless the border width is set to 3pts or more
(can be transparent). I have tried on 2 computers. On a database created
with Access XP this does not happen.
If I import a form with sunken text boxes into a 2003-created database they
get set to Flat, which is annoying to say the least.
(It does not matter if the format is 2000 or 2002/3. It is the version of
the creating program that matters.)
Does anyone know how to stop this happening?

I am using A2003 and do not see this problem. Tell us more details about how
you're creating the textboxes, as I use sunken effect in most of my
textboxes without difficulty.

yes, if you use themed controls...sunken boxes do not appear as such.

Take a look at the following screen shots...with themes on..and themes off.
Note the form with the "totals" boxes...the sunken effect disappears with
themed controls.

So, your choose is to turn off themes..and have your software look
"old"....or use windows themes...and loose the sunken effect....

I have gone with themed forms...they look so much "newer"..and clients don't
think my software is old and tired....

Then perhaps themes is not working? Hum...interesting. Are you buttons
rounded like my examples...or old square?

you need windows sp1 or later for themes to show.

However, if you are saying that you have windows themes working in
a2003..but *still* see sunken controls.then that is most interesting (I not
seen that).

My error, Albert. I just checked a number of databases on my PC; some are
using Windows XP theme; others are not. The ones that are do not show the
sunken appearance; the ones that aren't do show the normal sunken
appearance.

I didn't realize that the theme's use was database-file-specific. My
apology!

I find that if I turn themes off to create a database and immediately turn
them back on that database will show the sunken effect. Additionally if you
have a database that was not showing the sunken effect, after turning themes
off and on it appears to behave correctly.
Also on a database that was not showing sunken controls, setting the border
width to 3 and resetting sunken style, that changed automatically to flat,
then they do appear as sunken. You could presumably set the default style
like this.
Sometimes Access can be strange!!
