Suppress low-priority tasks?

My projects are constrained by budget, but the tasks are flexible.
What I'd like to do is make a "wish list" of tasks with priorities,
which will be over budget, then select higher a higher threshold for the
priority until the project fits in the budget. (I don't mind manually
tweaking the threshold). Does project support something like this?

'Fraid not. Project doesn't handle optional tasks very well. The basic
concept is that either the task is needed to complete the project, or
it isn't. Of course, you can put in tasks and then delete them later
if you decide not to do them, but even this will often play havoc with
your Critical Path.
