Switches for Notepad

R

Robin Clay

I have a Shortcut that calls up a large .txt document into NotePad.

Can SKS advise me what switch I can enter into this shortcut that will open
the document with the cursor at the END, rather than the beginning ?

Pretty please ?

Notepad is not part of Office, so is "off topic" here, and would
probably be better asked in the Operating system group. Notepad is
pretty simple program but one way of getting to the end is to insert at
the very first line left column the four characters

..LOG

this will time stamp the document as the last line and put the cursor there.

Robin, I answered this in another group (don't know if it was for you or
not.) There is no switch to allow a notepad file to open at the bottom that
I was able to find. However, double click on the notepad shortcut and then
do a Ctrl + End once it has opened and it will immediately go to the end of
the file.

Erm.... how would I know... ;-)

No - it's CERTAINLY not an "operating system" ! Is it ????

Erm - which four of those five ? I'll try them all...

Thank you very much for your response.

What made you think it was? It doesn't appear in any documentation
relating to MS Office, nor will it show up in the MS Office menu. ;-)

No, it's only been included with every version of Windows released to
date, and appears in the Accessories menu.

My post only has/had .LOG which is 4 characters, I've no idea where the
"extra period" appeared in your system. The post currently on the server
still only contains one period.
Thank you very much for your response.

You're welcome.

You need to check your newsreader -- the original posting only had the 4
characters ".LOG". Either that, or you edited post in the above quote.

I must check with my copy of Windows Version 1.....

But that STILL doesn't make it an operating system ! ;-)

There (appears to be) NO newsgroup for NotePad...

Yet another "funny" from the Microsoft stable ?

I just looked at
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...misc&mid=6e45999f-4a33-41a9-90cf-425b9098996f
whither I was sent by an e-mail notification.

Thanks for your further response.

I guess the .LOG is a relic from WordStar !

You're welcome. ".LOG" is documented in Notepad Help. Maybe it does what
you need.
