SWITCHING BETWEEN STYLES IN A DOCUMENT

When I try to switch styles 1/2 way thru my document from no spacing to
normal, nothing changes, normal does get highlighted, but the extra spacing
that is supposed to be there is not for the new paragraph....

Office Pro 2007 Student.

You need to insert a Section break.
Go to page Layout, and in the Page Setup section click on Breaks.
