Symbols

Using Word 2000. I have been inserting the degrees sign using Insert,
Symbol, and I must have hit a key wrong somewhere because now I get nothing
but symbols using the keyboard. Total gibberish. How do I turn off Symbols?
Simply closing the dialog box after entering the symbol doesn't do the
trick.

Never mind. It was happening in only one paragraph, so I deleted the whole
thing and rewrote it. Must have been a formatting symbol in there somewhere.
