sync 2 office 2003 calendars over the internet

Hi, I have 2 computers connected over the internet using microsoft
office 2003, one with winodws XP and the other with windows 2000.

I would like to syncronize those calendars, contacts, etc. over the
internet. Is there an application or way, other than microsoft
exchange?

If the only way is microsoft exchange, can I pay and use one exchange
from a server ( a paid server?) where can I get that?
