Sync Service Crash syncing to iCal

Can someone help?

I have been able to sync Entourage to Address book but cannot get the iCal
sync to work. I have tried all the resets, etc but still get the same error.
I get the Entourage Calendar in iCal but nothing syncs. I am not sure if
this is a OS X problem or Entourage. Any help would be appreciated.

The SyncService database could be corrupted :-\

First you can use a trick I heard about recently.
On Apple Developer conenction, you can download (for free) a sample

Along with the sample application comes a VERY HANDY little application
called Syncrospector.

THis application made by Apple can help you query the state of your sync
services and eventually trigger a slow sync, reset, etc...
Give it a try,

Alternatively, you can try a more drastic approach.

I've had similar problems in the past and managed to correct them by
completely resetting sync services, but that's a tedious process and
it's not risk-free.

The process resets all syncs as if it were the first time ever you sync
anything (including through .Mac or an iPod, phone...).

- quit all apps that sync: Mail, iCal, Entourage, iTunes, Safari,
Yojimbo, Transmit.....

- in the Terminal:
killall SyncServer
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/SyncServices/*

(this stops the Sync Server process then the second line deletes all
Sync Service data).

then open the .Mac prefpane in the Ssytem preferences adn then re-launch
all apps that sync to make sure they are all properly registered again
in the SyncServices database.

You will most certainly be presented at some point with the usual
conflict-resolver dialogs asking you whether you want to replace .Mac
data with the data from the Mac or the address book with the contacts
from Entrouage, etc.


As I was saying, this is a tedious process.

Thanks for the reply. I did go through all the resets several times but to
no avail. After giving up for several hours I remembered seeing in the log
or on the console about "eventname before date" or something to that effect.
I went through my Entourage Events and found an event with no name. I
deleted this blank event and the sync took off and everything came over.

Thanks a lot for posting the solution. It's very good to know that
events without names are problematic for syncs.

exactly the same as the OP.
I looked for blank events and could not find any. Do you have any
other recommendations on how to troubleshoot this crash? I know it has
something to do with my particular calendar data, because if I create
a second calendar in entourage and tell it to use that for syncing, it
works just fine.

Does it work fine if you copy all your events fro the calendar with
problems to the ne one?? COuld you isolate the problematic events using
this approach??
