Sync sharepoint calendar to outlook web access calendar?

A

Alzee

Hi,

I am at graduate school right now and have a sharepoint master calendar of
class events and outlook. I believe the versions are 3.0 for sharepoint and
2007 for outlook.
I can go to sharepoint calendar > actions and add my calendar to outlook...
but, that calendar doesn't show up in outlook web access so it is clearly not
syncing.
How do I make my sharepoint calendar sync with my outlook calendar fully so
that I can also view it on my outlook web access calendar?

Sharepoint syncing to outlook stores an offline copy in a pst, not your
mailbox.

Is the sharepoint site available using an external (internet) address?

Yes it is. I would like to be see my sharepoint calendar on OWA, consolidated
with my personal calendar just like it does on Outlook.
I was able to export the 'second' sharepoint calendar, then import it in
outlook, which makes it show up in OWA, but then I have to delete using views
and update manually every few days which defeats the purpose!

While it's 'showing' in outlook with your other calendar, its in a local
store - they sync process creates an offline copy viewable in Outlook, OWA
can't access offline copies.

You can pull your calendar into your Mysite - although it won't be viewable
side by side with the sps calendar, it can save a log on.

Seems bizarre that I can 'view' my sharepoint calendar in outlook (by adding
it) but if I want to sync it with my web outlook (OWA) I cannot... you'd
think this is basic functionality in calendar software.
The only workaround is to export my sharepoint calendar, then import it into
outlook... which I will need to do every now and then to 'sync' changes and
additions.
Not exactly user friendly experience!!

OWA uses a browser to display your mailbox contents from anywhere. OWA
accesses only the exchange server, not your local computer where Outlook is
installed. Sharepoint does not sync to your Exchange mailbox - it works
with POP3 or IMAP accounts too - and stores offline copies of its calendar
in a personal folder on your local computer. Personal folders cant be seen
by OWA.

OWA (from Exchange 2007) can access sharepoint libraries - if the admin
configured it. Click the documents button and enter your sharepoint address.

I've been searching this problem for days and there are several discussions on this topic with very few solutions.
The problem people face is that they need to get their Sharepoint or Public Folder calendars and/or contact lists sync'd up with their Personal Folder calendar and contact lists...mostly for use on their Windows Mobile or Blackberry devices.
There is a server solution called Add2Exchange for Public Folders but it hasn't been reviewed overly well. There is a client side solution for Public Folders which requires Outlook to be running but that won't work in my situation. I haven't found anything for Sharepoint yet.
Bottom line is that there seems to be several organizations looking for this functionality but very few stable solutions.

In desktop manager for BB:

After I linked the calendar (& shared tasklists) in Outlook 2007, I ran the BB desktaop manager.

There it is posible to link to two calendars (and having one be the default).

To enable this, you will need to remove the existing share first.

1) COnnect bb
2) Open desktop manager
3) tab configuration
4) button: configure sync
5) click calendar
6) cick: choose
7) select: microsoft outlook
8) hit browse:
9) Delete existing folders
10) now select all calendars you like (start with the sharepoint ones first.
11) ok, ok ok, close
12) sync to see result
