Synchronising a subform without stopping navigation in the subform

I am trying to synchronise a subform to a master form so that I can change
the record in the subform that is attached to the record in the masterform.
The masterform is a record of children and parents and the subform is a
record of addresses. The children may move between the mothers address and
the fathers address or a foster parents address etceteras. With this in mind
I need to be able to enter a new address in the subform and attach it to the
record in the mainform and to possibly change it at a later date. As I
navigate through the master form I need the subform to reflect the last
address record selected for the record in the master form. The closest I
have come to this is linkchildfields and linkmasterfields which appears to
display the results of a select query and the openform command; but the form
is already open! I've spent 1/2 a day going through the help files searching
for what is probably a very simple solution - argh!
