Synchronize over VPN

I currently synchronize my offline folders with Exchange
over a dial up connection. I want to do this over a VPN
connection which automatically dials out to establish a
connection. Here's the problem: In my email profile, I
specify my VPN connection to be used when synchronizing,
however, when I press 'F9', it attempts the VPN without
dialing and of course fails. If I dial before
pressing 'F9', it works fine. Unfortunately this is not
acceptable.

It may have to be. I've tried several VPN clients and they all work like
that. You need to establish your Internet connection first, then create the
VPN.
