synchronizing laptop and desktop on the fly

HotLoveMonkey

I know there are many synchronizing programs for outlook 2003. My wife and I
use 2 computers (in 2 parts of the house) at the same time...we both need to
access the outlook files and make changes to the tasks and contacts at the
same time. Has anyone actually done this who can recommend a program based
on experience? I have tried many programs with frustrating results. I have
even hired computer techs to try to get this going and had no results.

Hi HotLoveMonkey,

I prefer to try a "realtime" "sharing" solution instead of "synchronization
tools"

Have a look on this site:

Maybe it helps.

Sharing is probably the best solution for what your trying to do, and of
course, Exchange Server is "Proper" way to do that (although it has a very
high cost and maintenance for 2 users and 2 computers.

I deal with a similiar problem in that I have a desktop and a laptop that I
need to keep syncronized, but I am only 1 user. If you choose to go the sync
route (as opposed to the share route), the best program that I have found is
called Easy 2 Share for Outlook (or E2SfOutlook). It is the only program,
(and I tried many) that actually did a field by field check rather than just
doing a check for the "last modified" for each record. I found that most
programs were not able to identify a changed phone number, and thus update
the record when I did a sync.

The 1 drawback to using a sync solution (rather than a share solution) is
that if both you and your wife modify the same record (contact, task,
calendar, email, etc), only the later of the 2 changes get updated. Thus,
you'd have the limit that you couldn't both work on the same record and have
it work effectively. But, as a $40 solution, it is signifigantly cheaper
than many of the "Share" solutions, and certainly is dramatically cheaper
than having a full blown Exchange server.

Just my 2 cents, hope it helps

Matt - exactly which programs have you tried? I am trying to make the
same choice right now and since many look the same it's hard to
decide.

Thanks

Dear Barb,

I prefer our product (Public ShareFolder for Outlook), but I am the owner of
this company, I have to prefer this product :)

You must install the products by yourself and you have to make your own
decision.

On the Microsoft website are some "sharing" solutions which are rated by
customers:
