System Date in Merge Field

Using Access 2002 mailmerge with word. How do I preclude the field from
displaying the system date when there is no value in the document's source
field (a query in this instance)???

I'm not sure if I follow what you are trying to do. Are you saying you
have a Date field in the Word document and you want to suppress it if
another field is null? If that's the case then use an If...Then...Else
field in the Word document for the Date. You can get a little help
creating this field on the Mailmerge toolbar under Word Fields.

I'm not sure what you mean by "if...Then...Else" but suspect its a process I
have not learned as yet.
The date field is null and displays the system date in the merge document.
I do not want the system date displayed and in fact want "N/A" displayed if
the value is null.

On your Mail Merge toolbar, click the "Word Fields" drop down and
select If..Then..Else. The follow the instructions provided. If you
don't see the toolbar then right-click any toolbar and turn it on.
