Hi Jake,
I'm guessing something else may be running on the PC while you're working on these actions. The specific delays you're seeing in
Word (other than perhaps the auto spell check as you type, which I usually have turned off <g>) aren't ones I'm seeing here with
similar specs.
If your Office 2007 installation is recent and you have Windows Desktop Search installed you may notice a delay for a day (or even
two) while it builds all of its search indicies.
And yes, the Antivirus software brand being used can impact the amount of available memory and speed for opening documents and
starting Office apps. If, for example, you're using Norton, turn off the Office Plug-in in Miscellaneous settings.
Try starting Word 2007 while holding the ctrl key and opening the same document to see if the result changes. The gallery samples
for themes, etc are not loaded when the Office apps are, so there may be a delay while they load on the first time during a session
that you try to use the live previews.
Be sure to check the Nvidia website to see that you have the current driver for the GeForce 6600 series and from Microsoft update
that your version of Direct X is also current.
If you're using Windows XP Media Center Edition it does use more overhead than does 'regular' Windows XP.
=============
not at all , anti virus has nothing to do to with my office files, in other
words there is no macro problem but i will give you some examples..
FIRST: a word.docx file, say contains 30 pages and above. every time i open
such a file it takes ages and AGES till it finishes the so called
spell/grammer checking. ( however it takes pretty annoying time to start an
empty word file as well) afer finishing. scrolling within pages makes my CPU
run like nuts!!! every time it makes an auto-recovery save it freeses for a
minute. Now, lets say im applying a font/table/smart-art style on something,,
any style. its supposed to show me INSTANTLY how the "thing" looks like while
im passing my mouse on the options and thats called instant visual action! at
least i call it so. that never happes with 30paged word file , it never
shows , all menues takes ages to appeare then AAGES to disappear. AND THE
SILLIEST THING is that word keeps consuming memory while oppened (starts at
79Mb and grows till 450Mb !!! and never gives it up till u re-start it!
SECOND: Outlook, takes forever and a day till it starts properly! and when i
turns it off it even keeps working in the background for a while !!! moving
from E-mail to calendar or contacts or from any place to any place takes a
bit longer that it should!!! these moves should happen instantly!!
THIRD: excel, all what is said about word is applicable here as well. slow
to open, slow to move between tabs. AND MOVRE OVER if u have a tab with lots
of data and figures (Graphs) moving the page up and down would cause a
problem in rendering the whole program!! numbers/figures either disappear or
look transparen over other stuff!!! thats frustrating indeed !!!
Now whats on earth all that??? i dont think that 2Ghz centrino processor
with 2Gb RAM and nVidia 6600 are the problem!!! unless they are too weak to
handle the Giant office of microsoft !!! :-( >> >>
