System Tray Alert dont work with IMAP

I use Outlook 2003 and set up Gmail account using IMAP, but not getting any
updates until I click on inbox folder, also I not getting any email alerts.

Can I make Outlook auto update IMAP account and ring alerts on new e-mails?


If not should I use STMP/POP3 instead and won't it cause any problems if I
use both at same time?

You can set up send and receive settings (Ctrl+Alt+S) to download imap
accounts but you will not get new mail alerts on imap accounts. You can use
pop and imap at the same time and based on how gmail works, hitting the same
acct with both should work ok.
