When I protect a spreadsheet, the tab key no longer works, even in cells that are not protected. Any answers appreciated, it's driving me nuts

When I protect a worksheet, the tab key takes me to the next unlocked cell on
that worksheet.

Yes, I have only protected the columns on each side of the sheet. The 13 columns between these columns are unprotected

In xl2002, you can protect the sheet and make it so the user can't select any
cells. Any chance you turned that on by mistake?
(You can do it in code, too (for all versions).)
If that's not it, what do you mean by: no longer works?
Does that mean, it takes you someplace else
(maybe tools|options|transition tab|Uncheck Transition navigation keys)
But I'm pretty much out of guesses.
