tab "snap to" in horizontal ruler

For all my own MS Word documents, the margin and tab indicators snap
to stops every sixteenth of an inch. In a document sent to me,
however, even though the ruler is set in inches, the margin and tab
indicators snap to positions about every eleventh of an inch. Can I
fix that?

Your request is quite unclear - tab settings are paragraph specific within
any given document & set by the user who creates that document. There is
nothing that causes any kind of a "snap to" other than default tab stops in
a new document.

If you can provide a more complete description of the document, what you
want to accomplish, how you're going about it & what you expect as well as
what seems to be keeping you from doing so perhaps someone can offer a
solution...and always specify what version of Word you're using.
