Table and CPU

I have a table in Powerpoint 2003 - not very big (17x17) and no fancy
formatting. When I highlight the table, though, my CPU goes crazy:
It's up to 99% for about two minutes.

Does anybody know why such a basic table seems to eat up so much
memory? The table is created in PowerPoint and I paste the numbers
from Notepad - i.e. no formatting
