Table Autofit Function

Hi. I am using MS WORD XP. I have many tables consisting
of three rows, but whenever I try to make the cells in a
particular table smaller by clicking on the Autofit
function, nothing happens. That is, the size of the
columns are not reduced to fit the contents of the cells.
Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong? Please help
me.
